Short Films

After watching Stash Short Film Festival Comedy (2017), I came to realize the artistic genius it takes to coney a message using film tropes of comedy. One of the shorts that I want to talk about is Deuspi. This short film uses the plot of bank robbing to express how a plan may not fall perfectly into place when in the position of executing it in real life. The use of exaggerated actions such as running straight into the glass door or accidentally shooting the wrong person gives the scene a comedic element to show that their plan is going any which way but the way they intended. It was an interesting take on the event of robbing a bank because nothing, even the simplest tasks were not executed in their favor. Even the police demonstrated exaggerated actions as so many of them appear, but only go after the guy who is injured.

Mismatched expectations are evident in the film Darrel as the plot ends in an unexpected manner. The chameleon is displayed clumsily trying to impress the lady at the subway, but nothing seems to go his way. The average storyline would end up with him impressing her with his cute and clumsy personality, however, this was not the case. He ends up totally screwing things up as he knocks out the lady chameleon causing her to get stuck in the door of the subway. The expectation for the guy to get the girl was destroyed as the subway takes off down the track dragging his chances of love away. This comedic element to the story surprised me and left me smiling at the end. I think this film trope was a fun addition to the story to express its message while giving it some comic relief.
